Global Commercial Vehicle Manufacturing "Crashes in the Middle"

The financial crisis has spread, and commercial vehicle manufacturers are also fighting to escape. Recently, four European commercial vehicle manufacturers Daimler, Volvo, Scania and MANN have successively announced their 2008 financial statements, and both Daimler and Volvo have experienced significant declines.

Throughout 2008, Daimler’s net profit fell by 65% to 1.4 billion euros, sales revenue dropped 4% year-on-year; Volvo’s total revenue for the full year 2008 was 1.449 billion euros, a year-on-year decrease of 29%, and a net loss of 123 million. EUR.

Despite Scania's 2008 net profit growth of 4% to 813 million euros, truck delivery for the year was 66,516 units, a decrease of 3% year-on-year. Western and Central and Eastern Europe deliveries decreased by 4% and 15%, respectively. In addition, the MANN brand operating income in 2008 was 14.945 billion euros, up 6% from the 14.063 billion euros in 2007, of which the German market operating income was 3.704 billion euros, down 9%; the overseas market was 11.241 billion euros, an increase of 13%. The annual profit was 1.25 billion euros, a slight increase from the 1.22 billion euros in 2007.

Some experts once believed that the rapid growth of developing markets—such as Eastern Europe, South America, the Middle East, and North Africa—will compensate for the volatility of mature markets. However, in the financial crisis, good expectations collapsed. According to HSBC's forecast, the global demand for heavy trucks with more than 15 tons will drop by 29% this year, decrease by 24% in the developed country market, and decrease by 32% in the developing market.

After seeing the worst recession in Europe for more than 20 years, Volvo quickly took measures to reduce production. Other truck manufacturers have also taken similar actions. As the market is expected to contract by more than 30 percentage points, the "Mental" company will stop production for 70 days in the first half of this year. However, the truck manufacturing industry has fallen into a vortex of falling profits, and due to the continuous increase of inventory, it will pose a threat to the sales price in the future.
