The Minister of Commerce and Industry of India, Jyotiraditya Scindia, recently stated that India’s tire export volume in the first half of fiscal year 2010 (April-September 2010) rose by 17.5% year-on-year. According to a report by the Press Trust of India, in a written response to the People's Court (the lower house of the Indian Parliament), Sindia said that India’s tire exports totaled 2.92 million during the first half of fiscal year 2010. The Indian tire production in the same period of 2009 was 2.48 million. "Tyre exports have grown relatively slowly due to the economic downturn and market downturn." According to a report issued by Xindia, the total number of tires reached 57.2 million. In the same financial period last year, Indian tire production was 44.63 million.
