India plans to achieve self-sufficiency in urea production within the next five years. At present, the annual demand for urea in India is about 28 million tons, of which 22 million tons are for domestic production. Earlier, the Indian Ministry of Chemistry and Fertilizer announced that it plans to restart eight closed urea plants nationwide. The eight urea plants belong to the Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCI) and Hindustan Fertilizer Corporation (HFCL), which will add 9 million tons of urea production capacity.
