Muskmelon Grafting Techniques

Thin-skinned muskmelon cultivation is the most difficult to avoid heavy crops. The plots for continuous cultivation for two years generally have reduced production by 20% to 30%. In recent years, we have adopted the grafting technology of melons to produce melons in spring sheds, which can not only effectively solve the problem of yield reduction of melons. The problem, but also can make melons safe over the cold early spring, mention the morning market. Using this method to cultivate melons, the yield per mu can reach 4500 kg and the effect is considerable. The specific method of operation is as follows:

1. Choosing good seeds at the right time sowing: Using pumpkin seedlings as rootstock, Red City No. 10 melon as scion. In early February, the seedlings grow faster because the pumpkin seedlings grow faster than the melon seedlings. Therefore, melons should be sown 4 to 6 days earlier than the pumpkins.

2. Method of sowing: The melon was sown 1.5 centimeters next to the center of the nutrition bowl. After the melon leaves were white, the pumpkin seeds were sown in the center of the nutrition bowl, and the pumpkin cotyledons were flattened. The melons were grafted when they were one leaf.

3. Grafting method: using the connection method. Take melon seedlings and pumpkin seedlings, dig out the growing point of the pumpkin seedlings, and then cut 0.5 to 1 cm below the two cotyledons, incline down at an angle of 40 degrees, cut to the embryo axis 1/2 to 2/3, incision 0.7-0.8 cm long. The scions are cut obliquely upwards at a 30-degree angle from 1 to 1.2 cm below the cotyledon, and are 3-5 cut deep into the embryo axis. The length of the scion cut is the same as the length of the rootstock incision. Then the rootstock and the scion cut are closely connected, and the pumpkin cotyledons and the melon cotyledons are adjusted to cross each other. Cross-shaped, to prevent mutual shade, and then use a graft clip clip interface.

4. Management after grafting: timely watering after grafting, covering arch sheds, and tightly closed. At noon during the day, shady newspapers, kraft paper, etc. can be used. The first 3 days, the daytime temperature is controlled at 28 °C ~ 32 °C, the night temperature is controlled at 20 °C ~ 22 °C, the humidity within the greenhouse is controlled above 95%. After 3 days, the daytime temperature can be reduced to 26 °C ~ 28 °C, the night down to 18 °C ~ 20 °C, and during the day can be opened at the top of a small arch vent outlet. The air outlet should be small to large, and the small arch can be removed after 7 days. The shading can be shaded or removed according to the light intensity and the degree of reaction of the grafted seedlings to light.
