China's green printing lags behind Europe and America for 30 years

China's environmental protection green printing industry lags far behind the United States, Britain and other countries, the development of environmentally friendly low-carbon printing technologies and related industries. Cao Hongyi, deputy director of the Printing and Distribution Department of the China Press and Publication Administration, summarized and highly praised the rapid development of China's printing industry at the exhibition forum, but also pointed out that the printing industry has a long way to go in terms of green and low carbon.

“The printing industry not only consumes a lot of electricity, but also generates noise. It also causes harmful emissions in inks and adhesives that are used,” Yan Tingliang, deputy director of the China Institute of Printing Science, pointed out at the forum. “In the historical trend of low-carbon green, the change in the printing industry is imperative.”

At the 20,000-square-meter exhibition, hundreds of printing machines roared and the smell of ink dispersed in the air. Lou Tingliang said that the United States had excessively controlled the package by legislation, and the United Kingdom has also stipulated the prohibition of the use of printed materials containing toxic substances. Japan, which is separated from China by sea, introduced green printing standards as early as in 2001, controlled the use of hazardous materials, and issued certification for green printing in 2006.

“China has a lot of pressure to reduce emissions, and the printing industry must also take up the task of energy-saving emission reduction and pollution control,” said Yan. "China has now included the printing industry in the ranks of pollution control targets."

He said that although some entrepreneurs believe that emission reduction and pollution control will lead to an increase in costs, all companies that have a sense of social responsibility should regard the development of green industries as their direction of development. Moreover, through the production of green and safe products is also a good way to increase corporate credibility and product reputation. In the end, companies will certainly benefit from this.

In 2009, the total output value of the printing and copying industry reached 577.4 billion, ranking third in the world. More than 3/4 of the printing industry is located in eastern China. Among them, there are more than 3,000 various types of printing companies in Fujian, employing more than 130,000 people, and the output value of the printing industry has reached more than 26 billion yuan.
