China's largest gas-phase polyethylene pilot plant put into operation

An important step has been taken in the domestic production of polyethylene catalysts in China. As of July 8, the largest gas-phase full-density polyethylene pilot plant built by the China Petroleum and Petrochemical Research Institute has produced 400 kg of polyethylene products. The first batch of products was mainly used for later experimental research and laid the foundation for the development of new polyethylene products and special materials. The completion and commissioning of the pilot plant is of great significance for the development of the independent gas phase process and slurry polyethylene process in China and for the advancement of the technological progress in the polyethylene industry.
This set of polyethylene catalyst with a total investment of nearly 100 million yuan and process engineering pilot plant is a large-scale construction project in the field of chemical catalysts, and has been highly valued by CNPC. In June 2007, the construction plan of the polyethylene catalyst and process engineering pilot base was approved by experts; in August of the same year, the construction of the pile foundation was started at the Daqing Chemical Research Center; in January of this year, the pilot base project was completed in mid-term and was transferred from the construction phase. Into the feeding trial phase; the first polyethylene products were produced at the end of June. At present, the design flow rate of this pilot plant polyethylene design can reach 50 kg per hour. It is currently the largest gas phase method full density polyethylene pilot plant in China.
The catalyst is the core of the polyethylene process and new products. From the laboratory to the industrial application, polyethylene pilot plant evaluation must be conducted to reduce the risk of direct application of industrial equipment. The polyethylene pilot plant will carry out polymerization evaluation based on the result of the preliminary or pilot scale up of the catalyst and carry out the research of the project. The completion of the pilot base project will not only play an important role in the development of new products and technological research, but also will actively promote the development and industrialization of high-efficiency polyethylene catalysts.

It also represents a trend in the development of polyethylene production facilities.
