In May, GM and its joint ventures achieved 295,282 retail sales in the Chinese market, up 16.9% year-on-year. In the first five months of this year, its retail sales in China increased by 4.3% year-on-year to 1,536,913 units, setting a new sales record.
Last month, GM's Buick, Cadillac and Baojun brands, as well as SUVs, hit record sales and record sales in May.

Baojun surged 80%, and the sales volume of the Buick brand in China was 100,864 units in May, a substantial increase of 61% year-on-year. Baojun sold 43,515 units in China last month, a sharp increase of 80% year-on-year. Among them, Baojun 730 MPV and Baojun 560 SUV market performed strongly, which is still the boost of Buick brand sales growth.
Cadillac sold 8,568 units in China last month, a 30% year-on-year increase, with XTS and ATS-L luxury sedan totaling 2,400 units. The XT5 luxury SUV sold 1,449 units in its first full month after listing in China.
The Chevrolet brand suffered a decline in sales in China in May, dropping 24% year-on-year to 38,114 units. Its new flagship sedan, Mai Rui Bao XL, increased its sales in China by 37% year-on-year. In the next few months, Chevrolet will launch other models to expand its product line.
Wuling sold 104,170 vehicles in China in May, down 5% year-on-year, still affected by the continued downturn in the micro-commercial vehicle market.
