The total installed capacity of wind power in the US has lagged behind China

Reuters, New York, April 7th -- The American Wind Energy Association said on Thursday that the United States has lagged behind China in the development of wind energy because last year the United States significantly reduced its installed capacity for wind power compared with 2009.

According to the association, due to weak electricity prices and the global economic slowdown, the wind energy industry was under pressure. In 2010, the US added 5,116 megawatts of installed wind power capacity, which is equivalent to about half of the new capacity added in 2009.

This has caused the United States to lag behind China in total wind power capacity. After China added 18,900 megawatts of capacity, the total installed capacity of wind power is close to 45,000 megawatts, ranking first in the world.

According to the American Wind Energy Association, the current installed capacity of wind power in the United States is 40,000 megawatts, which is enough to supply more than 10 million households, of which the installed capacity in Texas accounts for about one-fourth of the country's total.
