AIS-based land-based navigation system acceptance

The “Highly Available New System AIS Ship Autonomous Navigation System” project organized by the Ministry of Transport has successfully passed the acceptance of experts organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The project was undertaken by the Maritime Safety Administration of the Ministry of Transport, Dalian Maritime University and the Dalian Naval Academy. The main objective of the project is to break through the key technologies of the AIS ship autonomous navigation system of the high-availability new system, develop a prototype of the ship-borne terminal equipment of the new system ship autonomous navigation system, establish a verification system for the new system ship navigation system, and launch the Chinese day in IMO in the future. The new system and standards for base and land-based dual backup positioning systems.

Previously, the IMO- led e- Navigation Strategy Implementation Plan pointed out that coastal navigation navigation relies solely on GNSS satellite navigation systems for potential safety hazards. IMO advocates member countries for coastal land-based navigation system research, that is, coastal vessels will use space-based and land-based dual-shipment ship navigation systems.

After three years of hard work, the project first launched a space-based and land-based dual-backup coastal navigation system based on the AIS- based ship autonomous navigation system. The demonstration results show that the real-time modified AIS ship autonomous navigation system has better positioning accuracy than 10 meters, which is in line with IMO coastal ship navigation accuracy requirements. At present, the project has obtained 4 national invention patents, 13 public publications, and 45 papers published in SCI/EI . The next step will be to advance the IMO international standardization work.
