Jaccar Holdings has ordered five 85,000-cubic-meter super-large ethane-ethylene carriers (VLEC) in the ship, each of which will be powered by a MAN B&W 6G60ME-GI mainframe. Hyundai Heavy Industries will manufacture these engines in Korea. The first ship will be delivered in mid-2017.
With the help of Mann Diesel and Turbo's exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology, the ME-GI engine will meet Tier III emissions requirements. These engines have a jet pressure of 400 bar and are a major part of the propulsion system equipped with the Mannmann diesel and turbine alpha-adjustable pitch propellers.
It is understood that the ME-GI engine will drive the VBS1810 propeller, the largest (7.6 m diameter) Mk 5 propeller in the propeller combination ordered by Mann Diesel & Turbo. To maximize efficiency, the propeller uses Kappel designed propeller blades and a rectifying cone/rudder ball system. MAN Diesel & Turbo will also provide a shaft generator system for each vessel.
The ME-G engine not only significantly reduces carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxide emissions, but also does not escape methane.
In December last year, Dachuan Group Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd. and JHW Engineering & Contracting Limited signed five 85,000 cubic meters VLEC general contract construction contracts, which is also the world's first 85,000 cubic meters super large ethane ethylene transport ship.
According to the news, the order was made by Luxembourg company Jaccar Holdings and German shipowner Hartmann Schiffahrts, which was ordered by Jaccar Holdings subsidiary JHW Engineering & Contracting Limited. The total price of the new ship is about 650 million US dollars. No alternative orders are included in the contract. The specific delivery period of the new vessel has not been announced, but it is expected that the VLEC will not be delivered until at least 24 months after the contract is signed.
