The world's first largest coal-to-olefins project was built in Baotou

On June 10th, the completion ceremony of the Sinopec cum project of the Shenhua Baotou Coal to Olefin Project was held in Baotou City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and announced the completion of the world’s first and largest global coal-to-olefins project.
The Shenhua Baotou Coal to Olefin Project is one of the five modern coal chemical demonstration projects identified by the country as coal-to-oil, coal-to-olefin, coal-to-dimethyl ether, coal-methane gas, and coal-to-ethylene glycol. The complete completion of the project is a major milestone in the development history of modern coal chemical industry in China. This project is the world’s first and largest in the world. The core device adopts China’s proprietary DMTO process technology. The project includes an annual production capacity of 1.8 million tons of coal-based methanol combined chemical plant, an annual output of 600,000 tons of methanol-based polyolefin combined petrochemical plant, and Supporting the construction of thermal power stations, public works installations, auxiliary production facilities and off-site engineering, a total of six systems and 46 units and units. December 2006 was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission. In 2007, it was designed and built, and the project was completed in 2010 and it was put into trial operation. On May 28, the two final production facilities for the separation of olefins and polypropylene were delivered in advance. At this point, all the equipment and facilities of the project were completed. More than 20,000 builders from 70 units participated in the construction.
It is understood that after the Shenhua Baotou Coal to Olefin Project was completed, it fully entered the test phase. In June this year, the joint chemical plant invested MTO-grade methanol; and it was commissioned on a full line in September. In the three coal-to-olefins projects under construction in China, we are striving to be the first to open up the whole process and take the lead in producing qualified polyolefin products. In the case of coal-to-olefins, the product direction, process route, technical reliability, engineering amplification, technical equipment, and water resources "Environmental Impact, Economic Feasibility, Operation Management" and other aspects are fully verified and demonstrated.
